The Six Kits Explained: Tackling High-Energy Consumption in Buildings

The Objective of iNSPiRe

SUNY UPSTATE SILVERMAN HALL — Ashley McGraw Architects | Syracuse ...

With the rising urgency to combat climate change, the innovative project iNSPiRe sets forth with a goal to address the issue of high-energy consumption in buildings. The primary objective is to create systemic Renovation Packages that significantly lower energy consumption in both residential and tertiary structures.

What iNSPiRe Aims to Achieve

iNSPiRe takes a comprehensive approach to minimize energy usage in buildings, targeting a reduction in primary energy consumption to less than 50 kWh/m²/year. Each Renovation Package is designed to be adaptable across various climates, prioritizing the comfort of building occupants.

Understanding iNSPiRe's Renovation Kits

To realize this mission, iNSPiRe is crafting industrial products, namely Renovation Kits, to retrofit Europe’s existing building stock efficiently. As the project progresses, these six innovative kits are nearing the demonstration phase in sites across Verona, Ludwigsburg, and Madrid.

Integration of Retrofit Components

The brilliance of the Renovation Kits lies in their integration of numerous retrofit components into one cohesive system. These components encompass HVAC systems, lighting, shading, as well as energy generation, addressing energy savings in all facets of a building.

The Innovation Behind Each Renovation Kit

The Renovation Wave and A Cultural Phenomenon: What European ...

The Kits have been meticulously engineered for optimal performance in both residential and office buildings, presenting customizable solutions to match each unique retrofit project. We’ll explore the innovation and energy-efficient solutions of each kit.

Kit One: Wooden Frame with Integrated Air-to-Air Heat Pump

Kit One presents a decentralized system directly incorporated into the envelope insulation, minimizing technical challenges such as thermal losses and fire safety issues that come with centralized systems.

Kit Two: Wooden Frame with Solar Collector

Kit Two tackles the high installation costs and impracticalities of solar collectors on facades by pre-fabricating envelope insulation modules, streamlining the installation and integration of solar technology.

Kit Three: Metal-Glass Façade with Air Handling

Designed for office buildings, Kit Three reduces installation costs and space requirements by combining heating, cooling, and ventilation units into a continuous façade module.

Kit Four: Facade Module with Sorption Collector

Energy Efficient Construction Tips for Commercial Projects

Kit Four innovatively combines solar collectors, sorption chillers, and storage elements within façade modules, eliminating the need for extensive pipework and roof space usage.

Kit Five: Standardized Hydronic Module

Developed to simplify the incorporation of renewable energies, Kit Five offers a standardized, yet flexible hydronic module with onboard smart electronics for easy monitoring and control of energy flows.

Kit Six: Multifunctional Ceiling Panel

Effortlessly embedding heating, cooling, ventilation, and lighting into one, Kit Six offers a multifunctional ceiling panel solution, ensuring high comfort levels while reducing installation costs.

Bringing Travel and Sustainable Renovation Together

As the world moves towards more sustainable living and travel experiences, iNSPiRe's Renovation Kits not only promise to transform buildings into energy-efficient structures but also pave the way for greener travel practices. Enhanced comfort and reduced energy consumption in accommodations encourage a new wave of eco-friendly tourism, blending the innovation of iNSPiRe's Renovation Kits with the conscious journey of the modern traveler. The link between sustainable buildings and the travel sector offers untapped potential for a healthier planet and a more responsible tourism industry.
